EIGHTH DAY SYMPOSIUM POSES AGE-OLD QUESTION:
“WHAT’S WRONG WITH THE WORLD?”

An Inkling of a Response: Eighth Day Institute Invites Baylor Professor Ralph Wood to Offer a Response from C.S. Lewis and G.K. Chesterton

December 29, 2011 – Wichita, KS – Eighth Day Institute will host its second annual Eighth Day Symposium on January 28, 2012, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 pm at St. George Cathedral in Wichita, KS. The symposium will offer a response to the age-old question, “What’s Wrong with the World?”, by exploring the views of various members of a well-known group of English scholars collectively referred to as the Inklings (along with G.K. Chesterton who played an influential role on the Inklings).

Dr. Ralph Wood, Professor of Literature and Theology at Baylor University, will present two lectures: “What’s Wrong with the World? C.S. Lewis Offers an Inkling of a Response” and “What’s Right with the Church: G.K. Chesterton on the Sacramental Imagination.” There will also be three presentations by local speakers: “The Inklings: Friendship as a Source of Cultural Renewal” by Warren Farha, proprietor of Eighth Day Books; “J.R.R. Tolkien: The Formation of Character(s) in The Lord of the Rings” by Jackie Fremin, local RN with a Masters in Theology; and “Charles Williams: The Affirmation of Being as a Foundation of Culture” by Stan Cox, long-time educator in Wichita public and private schools.

Snacks and lunch will be provided. Registration is required. Suggested donation is $15.

Dr Ralph Wood asked if anyone knew where Bishop Kallistos Ware described C.S.Lewis as an “anonymous Orthodox.” Bp Kallistos’s article is in the book Pilgrim’s Guide, (Eerdmans, 1998).
